Need is a wish in disguise. It is the ingrained, basic wish we have – to survive.
Need is the minimum we (believe) we have to have in order to survive. As survival was essential, we somehow developped and implemented an instruction manual as how to achieve it. We have then passed it forward, and leave it like a legacy. It has been transformed, and therefore we are not aware where and how it started, or what it means anymore.
As “need” is somehow ingrained and taken for granted, part instinct, part upbringing, we do not stop and challenge it. We somehow discover on the way that what “we need” is not what “they need”. And there the puzzle begins.
As survival used to equal a physical body, we first had the needs of the physical body to take care of. When life began to be more stable, we discovered the need of social connections – the survival of emotional body. The mind then began to allow itself to be seen, as living conditions were better, and the physical and emotional survival were, to some extent, more of a given.
However, with the blossoming of the spiritual bud, we are to redefine our “needs”. As our “needs” cover survival, who covers our thriving?
